Animal Aid Unlimited rescues and treats ownerless street animals in Udaipur, India who have become ill or injured. This includes dogs, cows, bulls, donkeys, cats, pigs, and birds. They give medical care to over 15,000 animals a year and provide sanctuary to those that need lifelong care.

Animal Aid Unlimited’s Mission
There is no Animal Control organization in India. Dogs, cats, cows, and donkeys live on the streets throughout the country. Most cities in India do not have hospitals for owner-less animals, which means injured or ill animals often die from treatable conditions.
Animal Aid Unlimited helps animals with fractures, wounds, mange, viral diseases, cancer, and much more. They vaccinate against rabies and other illnesses, conduct spay and neuter, and educate the community about helping animals.
Rescued Animals
In 2019 Animal Aid Unlimited rescued 15,517 animals, had an average daily number of 687 animals at the sanctuary, and welcomed 3,230 visitors and volunteers.

Animal Aid Unlimited Helpline and Ambulances
The Animal Aid India Emergency Helpline receives 70 calls a day. They have 4 dispatchers. Animals with the most life-threatening problems are given priority.
They have up to four ambulances on the road from 7:00am until midnight 7 days a week. And they offer one on-call ambulance for serious emergencies during the night.
Animal Medical Treatment
Around 20 animals a day require treatment in the Animal Aid Unlimited hospital for things such as antibiotics for infected wounds, splints for fractures, and surgery or intensive care for severely ill or injured animals.
The animals stay in the hospital for a few days or months. When fully healed, they are returned to the neighborhood where they were picked up. AAU also dispatches street teams every day to treat animals who don’t need to be brought to the hospital.
Animal Aid Unlimited Tours
AAU offers Hospital and Sanctuary Tours 4 times a day – 10:30am, 12:00pm, 2:30pm. and 3:30pm. You do not need to have a rabies vaccine to take the tour. After your tour you are welcome to stay and spend time with the animals, or sign up to become a volunteer.

Volunteer at Animal Aid Unlimited
You can volunteer at Animal Aid for a few hours, days, or months. You do not have to book in advance or complete an application. Just show up!
Check out the Animal Aid Volunteer Information Guide. Note that you do not need to have a rabies vaccination to volunteer, unless you want to work in the dog hospital. If you are going to volunteer for longer than a week or in a group of 4+ people Animal Aid would like you to complete this form.

– Sitting with animals receiving a drip
– Assisting with physio and hydrotherapy for paralyzed dogs
– Feeding orphaned calves and giving them the one-on-one time they so desperately need
Animal Aid Unlimited History
Animal Aid Unlimited was founded in 2002 by Americans Erika & Jim Abrams and their daughter Claire. Starting in 1994, they visited India several times as tourists. They fell in love with the culture, and in 1999 they moved to a small village.
The Abram’s soon realized that there were no services for ownerless animals in Udaipur. They did not have a background in animal rescue, but had experience in fundraising for nonprofits. In 2002 they hired a veterinarian and rented a small piece of land, and voila! Animal Aid Unlimited was born.
