Animals Asia works to end the cruel practice of farming bears for bile in Asia. They run bear sanctuaries in both China and Vietnam. And they work to end the cruel practice of cat and dog consumption in Asia.
Bear Bile Farming
Animals Asia actively campaigns against bear bile farming. This inhumane practice involves extracting bile from bears for traditional medicine. They engage with the traditional medicine community and other users of bile to promote herbal and synthetic alternatives and reduce demand.
Additionally, Animals Asia works to raise awareness about the cruelty of this industry. They engage with the media in China and Vietnam, as well as internationally, to ensure wide coverage of the cruelty of the bear bile industry. Furthermore, the organization collaborates with governments to end this practice and provide alternative solutions.
Bear Sanctuaries in China and Vietnam
Animals Asia operates bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam where bears are rehabilitated and cared for. These sanctuaries have comfortable dens and semi-natural enclosures and provide a safe haven for rescued bears. In addition, these sanctuaries offer a natural environment for bears to explore and enjoy.
During their rehabilitation at the rescue centers, the bears’ behavior and well-being are closely monitored to ensure the bears receive the best care possible. Furthermore, they aim to rehabilitate these bears both physically and mentally. To date, they have rescued over 610 bears.

Cat and Dog Welfare in China
Animals Asia extends its care to cat and dog welfare and promotes responsible pet ownership. In China, they work with rescue groups, shelters, and animal welfare volunteers all across the country to improve conditions for cats and dogs. In addition, they emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering to control the population of stray animals.
Animals Asia works to end the trade in dogs and cats for food in Asia. They collaborate with governments and NGOs to improve the welfare of companion animals and promote humane population management. Every aspect of dog meat trade involves extreme cruelty. Animals Asia’s latest petition is calling on the Vietnamese Government to make the sale of dog meat illegal in Vietnam.

Captive Animal Welfare
Animals Asia campaigns for an end to abusive animal practices in zoos and safari parks in Southeast Asia. They work closely with governing authorities and facilities to improve animal management and increase awareness of the welfare needs of captive wild animals. Furthermore, they provide education about the physical and psychological needs of captive animals.

Animals Asia: Rescuing and Rehabilitating Bears
The organization is deeply committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of bears in Asia. Their mission revolves around freeing bears from cruel conditions, such as bear bile farms, where bears are kept in cramped cages and subjected to painful bile extraction procedures. Transitioning bears from captivity to freedom is a delicate process that requires both medical expertise and a profound understanding of bear behavior.

Arrival and Health Checks
When bears are rescued, Animals Asia’s dedicated team provides them with immediate medical attention and care. When the bears arrive at Animals Asia sanctuaries, they are transferred to recovery cages and moved to the quarantine area. Here they are given water and food, and assessed and prioritized for treatment depending on their condition and the extent of their injuries.

Rehabilitation at Animals Asia Bear Sanctuary
The rehabilitation phase involves not only physical healing but also psychological recovery. The bears have the opportunity to relearn natural behaviors, socialize with other bears, and explore spacious enclosures. This helps them regain their confidence and adapt to a more natural way of life. Throughout the rehabilitation journey, each bear’s progress is closely monitored by experts.

Animals Asia: Creating Awareness Through Education
Animals Asia informs and empowers local communities for the welfare of animals and people, promoting change at the grass-roots level. The organization promotes alternatives to animal products for use in traditional medicine through their Healing without Harm campaign.
As part of their work to build awareness of the cruelty involved in bear bile farming and to discourage the use of bear bile products, the team at their sanctuary has developed educational programs on animal welfare and environmental issues. These programs are promoted through workshops and presentations for veterinary students, the staff of zoos and animal parks, and practitioners of traditional medicine.
