Southern Koala Rescue runs a 24/7 rescue service for orphaned, displaced, and injured koalas and echidnas in South Australia. The injured animals are rescued in the field and brought to the SKR rehabilitation facility for medical care.

Southern Koala Rescue: Purpose
Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue (SKER) is dedicated to protecting and supporting native animals and their natural habitats in South Australia. The animals include but are not limited to mammals and marsupials, such as koalas, echidnas, possums, kangaroos and wallabies, bats, wombats, and platypus. SKER will advance the natural environment by:

– Protecting orphaned or injured native animals by providing a rescue and rehabilitation program, including providing veterinary care
– Preparing native animals for release back into the natural environment where possible
– Supporting the work of researchers and other native animal stakeholders including through the provision of data and samples where possible

Working with the local community
Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue is working with the local community to:
- Educate and engage
- Improve, re-establish, and maintain the available habitat and food sources for native animals
- Advocate for the protection and enhancement of the natural environment for the benefit of all

The SKER Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre
Southern Koala Rescue ensures all wildlife receives veterinary care where appropriate and works tirelessly to rehabilitate those suitable for release back into the wild. They have established a purpose-built wildlife rehabilitation center.
The new rehabilitation center has enabled SKER to provide an enhanced level of care to rescued wildlife. They have planted hundreds of eucalypts as part of their koala food tree plantation on their 22-acre property at Onkaparinga Hills
