They provide a solution to law enforcement agencies for where to place wildlife seized from the illegal wildlife trade. The center collaborates with government, communities, and other international and local NGOs to protect habitats and endangered species.

Rescue and Rehabilitation

The LWC is a national rescue center for victims of the illegal wildlife trade. They provide food, shelter, veterinary care, and specialized rehabilitation to every animal who comes through their doors.

Rehabilitation of wild animals, particularly primates, is a long and difficult process. Once at the LWC, each individual goes through a short stabilization period. After this, the animal begins a 90-day quarantine period to ensure overall health and well-being.

After the initial care period, the animal is introduced to other animals of the same species. The center’s dedicated staff works tirelessly to nurse injured and traumatized animals back to health. They are provided with proper nutrition, medical care, and spacious enclosures that mimic their natural habitats.

The ultimate goal is to release as many of these animals back into the wild as possible. This contributies to the conservation of their respective species. The center provides ongoing support, such as supplemental feeding or medical care if necessary, to ensure the animals’ survival during the critical post-release phase.

Education

Education and awareness play a pivotal role in the fight to protect Cameroon’s wildlife. Limbe Wildlife Center welcomes up to 50,000 Cameroonian visitors to the center every year to take part in conservation education. Furthermore, their weekly school-based education outreach program reaches some 2,100 students per year.
