Sarvodaya’s Inception
In June 2009, veterinarians and professionals from different fields who care about animal welfare banded together to help animals live and thrive in a dignified manner. Eventually, they formed an official animal welfare trust which was officially registered in 2011 in Bangalore.
Sarvodaya’s Team and Tools
Sarvodaya Founder and Trustee, Dr. Akshay Prakash, works with five field teams of experts in different project areas. Together, they provide comprehensive care to injured and sick animals.
Each Sarvodaya field team consists of a nurse, veterinarian, cleaner, washer, and driver, along with a team of catchers. Their total staff consists of 34 individuals, including well-trained veterinary doctors.
Animal Handlers are carefully selected and operate under the guidance of senior veterinarians so they can provide primary emergency medical care. Handlers provide critical first aid for animals in case a veterinarian is not immediately present.
Each team member and volunteer is selected for their compassion toward animal welfare. They work together to create an environment where animals can heal, recuperate, and flourish.

A passion for animals guides the efforts of all volunteers and team members. They work tirelessly to ensure that they save and help as many animal lives as possible.
In terms of equipment, Sarvodaya relies on a Swaraj Mazda that acts as an ambulance and mobile surgery unit. The group also has a TATA 407, Tata Ace, and an Ashok Leyland for transportation.

Sarvodaya’s Flagship Program: ABC and ARV Drives
Mass sterilization and vaccination are the most effective and humane solutions to control and mitigate issues such as dog bites and rabies in cities. To control the number of stray dogs roaming the streets of the city, and reduce the number of rabies cases, Sarvodaya runs its flagship ABC and ARV programs.

Dogs are caught from designated zones using the most humane method, ”the butterfly net” method. They are then transported to the sterilization unit where expert veterinarians perform neutering surgeries that entail minimal trauma. Once the dogs are healed and thoroughly examined, they are released into the same area where they were caught.
Treatment and Rescue Programs
Sarvodaya helps sick and injured animals across the city by providing medical attention to animals in need. Each time theyare informed of a neglected, injured, or sick animal, the rescue team is mobilized and the animal receives all the medical attention it requires to mitigate its distress. If on-the-spot treatment is not enough, animals are also taken to the Sarvodaya shelter for more extensive care.
Adoption
Sarvodaya encourages the adoption of abandoned pups and adult dogs. Stray pups are brought to the shelter and dewormed, vaccinated, and treated for any illness they may have. They are then put up for adoption through volunteers and online social networks.
Sarvodaya has organized several adoption camps for Indian dogs through its Let’s Live Together initiative. While Sarvodaya ensures that young pups find homes, they also work to provide abandoned adult dogs with new homes and a second chance at a better life.
