Monkey World Ape Rescue Center provides a permanent, loving home for primates who have suffered abuse and neglect. They care for over 250 primates from 20 different species. This includes chimpanzees, gibbons, orangutans, monkeys, and prosimians.

How To Visit Monkey World Ape Rescue Center

At the Monkey World park, visitors can see over 250 primates from more than 20 different species. They are open every day of the year except Christmas Day from 10:00am until 5:00pm. Tickets are available both online and on the gate. You can save up to 10% when booking online! Also, a self-guided audio tour is available to purchase. Tickets can be purchased online or onsite.

Their closest airport is Bournemouth which is about 25 miles away from the park. From here you can either take a taxi or bus to Bournemouth train station and then the train directly to Wool station. Furthermore, Southampton Airport is about 50 miles from Monkey World. Trains run directly from Southampton Airport Parkway to Wool.

A Story of Compassion and Dedication

Jim Cronin, inspired by a TV documentary about the illegal pet trade, began his mission to rescue and rehabilitate primates. His vision was to subsequently provide a permanent, loving home for those who had suffered abuse and neglect, giving them a second chance at life.

Since its opening in 1987, Monkey World has rescued primates from all over the world, assisting 27 governments to date. Over the years, Monkey World has grown significantly. Today, this 65-acre sanctuary is home to over 250 primates of various species.

Rescuing Primates from Dire Circumstances

Monkey World has played a pivotal role in rescuing primates from deplorable conditions. Primates come to the centre from laboratories, the pet trade, or entertainment venues where they have been subjected to unimaginable suffering. The dedicated team at Monkey World provides these primates with the care, rehabilitation, and love they need to heal both physically and emotionally.

Rehabilitation and Care

Once rescued, each primate undergoes a thorough health assessment and receives personalized care to address their specific needs. The rehabilitation is a lengthy process that focuses on physical and mental healing. The process has a strong emphasis on socializing the primates, encouraging natural behaviors, and promoting a sense of family and community within their respective groups.

Monkey World keeps the females on birth control. Moreover, there is a hospital and operating theatre where most of the medical examinations and operations on the primates are performed. At present there are 4 groups of chimpanzees at the park; three mixed-sex groups and one all-male group.

Monkey World also places great emphasis on education, both in-house and through outreach programs. Visitors to the sanctuary gain a deeper understanding of the challenges primates face and the critical importance of conservation efforts to protect these incredible creatures.
