Karuna Society For Animals and Nature works for animal welfare by providing free medical care and shelter for sick, injured, abandoned, and abused animals in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. The animals include dogs, cats, birds, monkeys, cows, donkeys, and wildlife.

It is located behind S.C.Quarters Enumulapalli, Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh.

Karuna Society for Animals and Nature Mission

They promote compassion, care, and conservation of animals and their natural habitats. Their mission is:

* To rescue and rehabilitate animals and nature in distress in their immediate environment.

* To provide free medical care, shelter, and lifetime care for those animals that cannot be rehabilitated.

* To analyze the causes of the existing problems and create solutions and improvements to prevent the suffering of animals.

* To promote animal-friendly farm practices in organic farming.

Karuna for Small Animals

Karuna for Small Animals provides care, support, and protection for small animals. They rescue and rehabilitate small animals in distress, whether they are abandoned, injured, or facing other challenges.

Hospital and Shelter for Small Animals

At Karuna First Aid Center for Stray Animals, thousands of animals have received free treatment and a new life. They have an in-and-out-patient clinic for local dogs and cats and any animal rescued by the public, including birds, monkeys, and donkeys.

After recovery, the animal are returned to the same area or it will be accepted as a disabled permanent animal at the Karuna Society.

Animal Birth Control/ Anti Rabies

 Since 2002, Karuna has been successfully implementing its Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Anti-Rabies (AR) programs in the rural areas of south Anantapur District. To date, over 14,000 dogs have been sterilized and vaccinated by the Karuna Society.

Moreover, all surgeries and post-operation care follow the “Standard Operating Procedures” as per the rules of the Animal Welfare Board of India.

Karuna for Cattle

Karuna Society extends its compassion and assistance to cattle, particularly those in distress or in need of medical attention. By addressing their healthcare needs and ensuring their well-being, Karuna Society helps improve the quality of life for these animals.

Cattle Rescue Project

Karuna’s Cattle Rescue Project started in 2002 with the rescue of illegally transported cattle on the way to the slaughterhouse. Moreover, Karuna Society has rescued cattle of all breeds and color for the sake of saving the lives of the animals.

Cattle Hospital

Karuna’s cattle hospital, funded by a grant from the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), provides excellent medical care for rescued cattle as they age or become disabled. They ensure that these animals receive care until they experience a natural and peaceful end of life at the hospital.

Karuna for Wildlife

The organization has actively engaged in rescuing local wildlife since its inception in 2000. They work on the rescue, medical care, and rehabilitation of wildlife species. Additionally, this includes the need for shelter and lifetime care for those animals that cannot be rehabilitated.

Karuna Society collaborates with forest departments to rescue and rehabilitate injured or orphaned wildlife. By providing medical care, shelter, and a safe environment, they enable these animals to recover and eventually return to their natural habitats.

The Plastic Cow Project

The Plastic Cow Project is a unique initiative by Karuna Society that raises awareness about the detrimental impact of plastic waste on animals, particularly cows. The project aims to combat the issue of cows ingesting plastic while foraging for food.

Karuna Society educates communities about proper waste management and the hazards of plastic waste. They also provide feeding stations for cows to minimize their exposure to plastic and ensure they meet their nutritional needs.

Advocating Humane Education in Schools

Karuna Society recognizes the importance of humane education in fostering empathy and compassion towards animals. Consequently, they aim to nurture a generation that values and respects all living beings.

Karuna Society launched Humane Education Program in December 2010 targeting students of local schools. They held sessions for different age groups in each school. Also, students watch a documentary film on animals and their care after each interactive session.
