Sarnath Animal Welfare works for the well-being and protection of street dogs and other stray animals in the enchanting city of Sarnath. They conduct Animal Birth Control camps and awareness campaigns in the schools.

The project was born out of the compassion of a Buddhist pilgrim who was touched by the deplorable condition of the street dogs in Sarnath. Sarnath is a Buddhist pilgrimage site, a tiny village that surrounds a park in north-central India where the Buddha first taught.

Sarnath Animal Welfare: Animal Birth Control and Animal Vaccination

Sarnath Animal Welfare, with the generous support of The Brigitte Bardot Foundation, has been actively involved in implementing an Animal Birth Control and Animal Vaccination (ABC/AV) program in Sarnath, India.

The main focus of this initiative is to sterilize a large number of stray dogs in the area to curb their population growth. Help Animals India took up the challenge and, in 2014, they organized Sarnath’s first annual animal birth control campaign.

Sterilization

Since 2015, over 3000 stray dogs have been sterilized in Sarnath in collaboration with Varanasi for Animals and Help Animals India. The project is carried out through the ABC/AV Clinics held by Sarnath Animal Welfare.

This effort not only helps control the population of stray animals but also contributes to their overall health and well-being. Awareness in the schools and the community is paying off and changes are being seen on the field today.
